4. I tan much more quickly than others; why is that?
|
We are all born with a certain genetically determined skin colour. Genetic factors in particular determine the ability of
pigment-producing cells to produce either small or large amounts of pigmentation substances. Which basis is already present
in the skin and to what stage the pigment grains will grow, is therefore fixed from birth.
The influence of ultraviolet rays may tan the skin even more. People born with dark skin will generate pigment more intensely
and tan more easily than people with fair skin. All babies of Afro-Caribbean descent are born white, their skin does not change
colour until they are exposed to daylight.
