17. From what age can you use a sunbed?
|
The delicate skin of babies and small children is extremely sensitive to ultraviolet rays. This extra
vulnerability lasts until about age fifteen. Compared with adult skin, the skin of a young child contains
relatively more cells susceptible to the harmful effects from solar rays. Damage at a young age increases
the risk of developing skin cancer at a later age. We therefore advise you as follows: use a high factor sunburn
protective cream or a sunblock on toddlers in the sun, make sure they wear hats or caps and do not let them play
outside in the altogether in the hot sun. Use of a sunbed for under 15 year olds is illegal in Australia.
